Exam Pattern
The Part 1st of the examination is conducted in the
morning hours from 09.00 hours and will obtain over by 11.30 hrs. After a break
in between, Part 2 exam will be conducted. The subjects of the written
examination, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject

NDA Exam Pattern -
Detailed explanation of the sections
The UPSC NDA II Exam is conducted into parts namely
Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT).
1.
Mathematics Section:
The Mathematics section comprises of 120 questions from mainly
from the class 11th and 12th. Every question is
compulsory and carries equal weight age of 2.5 marks each. There is also a
provision for the penalty if the option provided by the applicants is wrong.
However, there is no such provision if applicants do not provide any answer to
that particular question.

General Ability test (GAT):
GAT Section is the most significant section of the all
examination and hence it should be done with precision. This section has 150
questions from every department except mathematics which mean there are
questions from Physics, Chemistry, History, geography, English and General
Knowledge. There are 50 questions in the second part only from English which
must be solved with precision if the candidates want to clear the examination
easily. For every question, 4 marks are awarded and 1 mark is deducted for
every wrong response.
NDA Exam Pattern - Important Points
- There are 120 questions carrying 300 marks in the Mathematics section and 150 questions carrying 600 marks in the general ability section.
- The total marks will be 900.
- The time allotted for the first section would be 150 minutes and for the other section, the time allotted would also be 150 minutes.
- The papers in all the subjects will consist of Objective Type Questions only. The Question Papers (Test Booklets) of Mathematics and Part B of General Ability Test will be set bilingually in Hindi as well as English.
- In the question papers, wherever necessary, questions involving the metric system of Weights and Measures only will be set.
- Applicants should write the papers in their own hand. In no circumstances will they be allowed the help of a scribe to write answers for them.
- The Commission has the discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects at the examination.
- Applicants are not permitted to use calculator or Mathematical or logarithmic table for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets). They should not, therefore, bring the same inside the Examination Hall.
